Below is the BS announcement - they first announced this goal in May 2000 and we are now 18 months plus beyond that. I guess this would confirm the long lags we always hear about.

BellSouth to offer high-speed DSL service in Madison, Ga.
Atlanta-based RBOC BellSouth Corp. today announced that its high-speed DSL service is now available to qualified consumer and small-business customers in the Madison, Ga. area.

This service offering is part of an initiative announced in May 2000 by BellSouth and Georgia Gov. Roy Barnes to speed development of a broadband infrastructure throughout the state.

BellSouth has now installed high-speed ATM switches in the Albany, Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, Macon and Savannah, Ga. local calling areas, providing each of Georgia's five calling areas with the switching capabilities required to provide high-speed services.

The company's FastAccess DSL service enables users to download information at speeds up to 1.5 Mbps per second.
