>> What's it to you, you wouldn't have approved if we had. <<

my point was to illustrate the hypocrisy in our elected leaders. they don't care about human rights unless it somehow benefits their agenda. witness afghanistan. we didn't give a rip about that backward country until we had a reason to go over there and kick some ass.

so it does matter to me when our foreign policy is not consistent and politicans lie about their motives. it makes us look throughout the world like a bunch of hypocrites.

>> Well, I suppose we could have done half a job in Kosovo and half a job in Rwanda and probably failed at both as a result. Would that have pleased you?? <<

if we are going to go injecting ourselves into civil wars that are not our concern shouldn't we attempt to save a million people rather than a few thousand? isn't this what you were just advocating? triage?

i would rather republicans or conservatives stand up for their beliefs and lose than move to the left to bring more people into the party.

>> That kind of attitude deserves to live under a perpetual Clinton administration. <<

no, the attitude you hold of republicans gravitating to the left means that there is practically no difference from clinton when the republicans do get in office. about the only difference is the government grows slower than with democrats. but it still grows. hardly a conservative approach.

what in actuality happens is people begin to see little difference in the two candidates and become apathetic to the whole process. you get low voter turnout and little participation.

you know there is another way of looking at it. rather than compromising on your core beliefs in the hope that maybe things won't be quite as bad with a liberal republican in there, perhaps it's wiser to make a clear distinction between republicans and democrats while standing firm on what you believe in. if by doing this you lose to the democrats and they run the whole show then when things don't work out they will be the only ones to blame and a clear distinction will present itself.

by moving to the center and compromising on everything people can't figure out who to blame. republicans have gone along with democrats so much that you can blame them for just as much with what's wrong as you can the democrats. sometimes you have to stand on principle and lose to show people the mistake they are making. how can you do this when there are very few clear difference for voters to see?
