If it were based on culture and history alone, Israel could be in Europe or America, or Guatemala, or Uganda? Uganda was considered but the deep cultural attachments really precluded any land but Palestine. Since Palestine was sparsely populated and most land ownership had reverted to the state, they thought they could buy a homeland. the Palestinians are being treated differently, for they did not have an army You could also point out that they did not have any institutional support for a state. They were just working at a lower level of civic organization. The whole effendi class (about 200,000) left before the end of the Mandate. This must have had a demoralizing effect on the others. Rough luck on them I know, but none of it would have happened if the Arabs hadn't started the war, and kept it up for forty years. Name me one country that has let refugees back when the war was still going on, and those refugees were on the enemy side. Do you think the NA is going to let the Pushtoon Taliban supporters back into Afghanistan while the fighting is still going on?
