craig,

1. show me one person who believes eating 6 ozs of straight animal fat is better or equal to eating the same amount of monunsaturated fat - other than yourself. didn't i ask this before? is this one of those questions you won't answer ;-)

2. wrt to carbos being bad - i agree that too many carbos are bad (and are a key to excess weight gan) and i agree that america eats way too many carbos. why did you assume i didn't? attacking a foe that doesn't exist again? ;-)

you need to learn a little about ketosis - the state the body goes into as a response to starvation. a lack of carbos is a key to this problem and it can be fatal for some. yes, moderate amounts of carbohydrates keep some folks alive! how terrible! ;-)

you are no better than the carbo king folks. they are extreme. carbos aren't bad. it is how you use them.

fruits and vegetables aren't bad for you. most folks were snookered by the high carbo extremists and have poor health b/c of it. some folks were snookered by the other extreme end of that pendulum - carbos (fruits and vegetables - along with a lot of other sugar crap) are evil. no, it is how you use them that determines their value.

carbos are good in moderation. protein is good when taken in amounts that support one's unique lean body mass and activity level. monounsaturated fat is good, too. saturated fat isn't a big deal unless you eat too much of it.

you sound like a guy who lost some weight on the atkins diet and, therefore, the diet is healthy. the funny thing is that adkins advocates a diet very similar to the zone (and it isn't gorge yourself with meat and exclude almost all carbos like his initiation plan) for maintenance purposes. btw, there is no evidence that folks lose weight faster on the atkins initial plan (severe carbo reduction) compared to the zone (moderate carbo consumption, preferrably in the form of fruits and vegetables).

most folks apparently don't read that far in the book... ;-)
