Saudis Snub Clinton in PR Blitz
he Saudis may be going on an expensive PR offensive – but
Bill Clinton is definitely one name they’d like to omit
from U.S.-Saudi relations.

We note the four-page spread in Thursday’s Wall Street
Journal titled "Twenty years of change and continuity: King
Fahd of Saudi Arabia” - at open rates the ad would go for
an easy $250,000!

This may be just one sign of how seriously worried the
Saudis are about U.S. feelings toward the oil kingdom after
Sept. 11, when 15 of 19 terrorists turned out to be Saudi
nationals.

The ad makes a nice case about warm, fuzzy relations with
the U.S., and shows photos of the king and Ronald Reagan,
President Bush’s father, Margaret Thatcher and Franklin
Roosevelt.

Notably missing was Clinton. The Saudis apparently have
little interest in appeasing the former president or his
followers. Perhaps many in top Saudi circles believe his
policies of appeasement to terrorists led to the rise of
bin Laden
