<<"The only thing that will accomplish that is American ground troops. Lots of them, likely 100,000 or more" >>
I am EXCEEDINGLY PLEASED to admit that it now looks like I will be proven wrong here. So, I am happy to state
I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE 100,000 GROUND TROOPS
BTW, I do indeed listen to reason, particularly when supported by facts. I have found little of either here, particularly with regard to facts.
Also BTW, although many here may believe that terrorism has now been eradicated from the world, I still maintain that this is only the tip of the iceberg. I have many continuing grave concerns regarding the world supply of unaccounted for nuclear weapons and their precursors, as well as the stockpiles of biologicals and chemicals, and who might have access to these, and into whose hands these might have fallen.
Most terrorists are not nearly so easily associated with any geopolitical entity. The exceedingly stupid and (as it turns out) fatal error of the Taliban was to openly associate themselves with the #1 name in terrorism. That gave us the one thing we wanted: a clearly definable target. But the thousands Bin Ladin (and others) have trained by and large remain unknown to us, are smart enough to maintain extremely discreet profiles, are spread throughout the world like crabgrass---and may well prove a much more formidable and elusive opponent than Bin Ladin and the Taliban.
JMVHO, of course.......
