Oblomov, the majority has not come to grips that Bush and Powell just plunged the US in another disconcerting situation due to their conflict of interests with Saudi Arabia and the Afghanistan war. Powell recruited his close friends the Arabs and appeased them and also Pakistan to be able to bomb the Taliban and Afghanistan.

In the process Powell managed to antagonize over 1 billion Indians and Hindus by siding with Pakistan and the Arabs. The Indian government allied itself with Russia to counter balance the new disturbing alliance.

Uzbekistan barely cooperated (refused to allocate Uzbek forces) and Tajikistan joined only after a green light from Putin. The US remained at the mercy of the Russians in Afghanistan ...... why ?

The net result Taliban was bombed day and night and the Northern Alliance did not move an inch. Only upon orders from Putin earlier this month did the Northern Alliance move with the help of over 6000 Uzbekistan and Russian troops part of which infiltrated the Taliban forces.

The Northern Alliance spit in Bush face by taking over Kabul and alienating Pakistan who can not afford an one sided government in Afghanistan due to it's own Pashtun militant tribes and the animosity of the Northern Alliance toward Pakistan which is squarely against India and Russian interests. Further now the Northern Alliance stated that they would prefer no UN intervention and would appreciate to be left alone - or in other words US forces get out of Afghanistan.

As such the US is left in a quandary - they promised Pakistan the moon for their help and now they can not deliver. Iran will also do it's best to frustrate the issue even more.

New result - even more Muslims will be convinced that the US can not be trusted that the US screwed Pakistan and therefore the US and their citizen are fair game in their quest for revenge.

Further - Ever wondered why the great sympathy of Bush toward Putin in his recent visit? Putin saved Bush in Afghanistan, that is why Bush was forced to make concessions regarding the nuclear warheads, and Putin will think about it.

Further have you heard a lot of propaganda regarding Star Wars lately ??? Think why ......... Because Putin does not want it. So the Carlyle Group were Bush Senior is involved must resign itself only to the profits from the present war in Afghanistan and possible forgo the anticipate fat returns from Star Wars. (well Bin Laden had a substantial investment there as possible other Saudis.......... now they removed the web site thecarlylegroup.com and the missing page decribing Carlyle Directors thecarlylegroup.com but some info is at this link hoovers.com

For example, both United Defense and General Dynamics had plenty of high-powered help in their bid for the LAV and other defense work. In United Defense's corner were Frank Carlucci, who was Secretary of Defense under President Reagan and chairs the Carlyle Group, a venture capital group that owns United Defense; James A. Baker III, Reagan's Treasury Secretary and President George H.W. Bush's Secretary of State, who is a managing director and the senior counselor of the Carlyle Group; retired Army general and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs John Shalikashvili, whom United Defense pays $25,000 a year as a board member, according to Securities and Exchange Commission records; and retired Army Gen. J.H. Binford Peay III, vice chief of the Army in 1993-94 and until 1997 commander of U.S. Central Command. United Defense pays him an annual retainer of $25,000 as a board member.
