Senator Leahy is not only the Chair of the Judiciary Committee, he is also a liberal. I don't keep track of who's liberal and who's not, I have to ask my husband, who cares about stuff like that. I know enough to know that Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw and Tom Daschle are icons of liberalism who are hated by your basic right-winger, but Leahy seems obscure to me, and suggests that the perp lives in the Northeast, and keeps up with politics. I doubt that Osama bin Laden gives a flip that the Senate leadership switched from Republican to Democrat in March.

Leahy's claim to fame is blocking Bush's conservative appointments to the Judiciary.

If I were the FBI, I'd be cross-checking people who subscribe to conservative publications and, while there's no way to know who listens to Rush Limbaugh, maybe people who send him email.

Also, the guy has the following characteristics - he probably either owns his own home, or is well-heeled, or once worked in the bioweapon program, or is connected to people who did, or belongs to a nut-case America organization, because you can't make this stuff in an apartment or a trailer, without killing yourself.

I would actually not be a bit surprised if the guy who sent the letters isn't the person who made the stuff, and he may very well be dead now.
