Hi, Poet - I think it's worthwhile to remember that there are still some distinct rivalries in the former Soviet Union.

Anybody can write a book; anybody can be sponsored to write a book, to "make a case" for any frivolous story you want.

Putin's recent alliance with the United States is by no means universally accepted in his homeland. If it is, in fact, sincere, it is an act of some political courage.

There are many who would love to see the relationship between the US and Russia fail (or not to exist at all); at least half of our inquiries should be devoted to the bona fides of the author. Reliance on such material, without strong corroboration from others, is very risky.

Regards,
