I wasn't afraid of CO and it cost me 2 dogs, millions of brain cells, heart tissue, 20 grand in medical bills, 80 grand in legal fees and about 1.5 mil in lost earnings.

Today, with airtight homes, the probability of CO poisoning is high. And with a half life of nearly 5 hours, a small ppm will concentrate to dangerous levels regardless of cubic area or proximity.

Not to say you can't live through it but you'll remember the event for the rest of your life.

If you have any fossil fuel burning appliance in your home, you should have a least 3 CO detectors.
