SI reviewed: forbes.com

A techie's dream, yes, but what surprised us are the impressive number of discussions aimed at sophisticated investors. One room, Currencies and the Global Capital Markets, is typical of the serious, well-informed and witty posts. (But isn't a post saying George Soros "sucks the blood from the poor" a bit harsh?) The Hot Subject link gets you to boards like Alternative Energy, which opens with quick links to threads on 50 fuel-cell stocks. Boards are well organized. You can also track your portfolio, get news and stock research.

BEST: Tech stock haven.

WORST: Many nontech boards are thin.

And a review of the Yahoo(appropriately named) message boards....

Yahoo Finance
finance.yahoo.com

Rapid access to every topic under the sun. But it's hard to pick out nuggets of wisdom in this sea of unsophisticated blather. On the Bonds board, we're told how to create a chain letter that will turn $6 into $6,000. Luckily you have the option of ignoring any poster or reporting abuses. Track your favorite boards on your MyYahoo home page.

BEST: Breadth, plus occasional juicy nuggets from corporate insiders.

WORST: Blather and hype.
