EGYPT CALLS ON U.S. TO STOP ISRAELI ARMS BUILD UP November 17, 2001

The Middle East Newsline reports: “Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has called on the United States to stop supplying Israel with weapons. In an unusual call from Mubarak, the Egyptian president said U.S. military support of Israel would foment instability the region. He said this includes Israeli development of nuclear weapons.
‘Israel is arming itself and the United States is also providing it with weapons,’ Mubarak said on Wednesday in a ceremony to open a bridge across the Suez Canal. ‘But how long will Israel's neighbors continue its silence while this continues?’ Mubarak warned of a Middle East arms race unless the U.S. ends military aid to Israel. He said such a race could involve weapons of mass destruction…”
