Dan, Re: "Why do you think they had to go with serverworks? Their solution shipped, was buggy (Compaq found that one, too, typically, Intel didn't have a clue) and Intel gave up on their 8 way PIII chipset for nearly a year and started selling Intel boards with serverworks chipsets."
You're completely wrong in so many ways. First, here is your original statement, just so that you don't back up from your original wrong assertions.
"Intel's attempt at an 8-way chipset corrupted data - and Compaq had to tell Intel about it"
The article that you posted was about delays to the 450NX chipset, a chipset that was launched in 1999. The 450NX was a 4-way chipset, and when it launched, it was one of the most popular server chipsets that Intel has ever sold, despite supporting the older EDO memory standard. There were no problems with this chipset corrupting data.
Also, the 450NX was not a Serverworks chipset. Serverworks chipsets came later as part of a partnership to cover more holes for a market with expanding segments. If you'll notice, Intel is beginning to depend less on Serverworks these days. The long delayed Grand Champion chipset is probably one reason why Intel is depending less on this company.
As for Profusion, the only 8-way chipset from Intel, this was and continues to be the best selling chipset for Pentium III Xeon, and no data corruption problems have ever existed for this platform.
Now how are you going to justify those previous lies of yours?
