CJ mentioned that the Saudi are not technically adept, but there has been an effort bring them around. I agree Saudi Arabia differs from some of the characteristics of a Third World Nation, but I believe the parameters are still prevalent enough to see them as such.

It is, in the sense that it has been a relatively short time since Saudi Arabia has started on their road to "democracy" and a free open society. As far as the Government is concerned, they are not competent and have been and continue to be "sold a bill of goods" by Western advisers. And now they are broke.

You still persist in speaking of the Saudis as if they were not responsible adults..."sucked in", "not competent". They made their choice, and it wasn't progress towards democracy or an open society; just the opposite in fact. The spent their money exporting their fanatic Wahhabihism all over the world...after 9/11, do you expect me to be sorry they are broke? which is only due to the rapaciousness and profligacy of their 6,000-strong royal family, anyway.
