Yes, that was in the article that I posted to you.

Intel had a terrible time when it tried to develop 4-way and 8-way chipsets. I think it was more corrollary and Compaq that bailed out Intel's SMP chipset mess than serverworks. But Intel did fail when it tried to develop its own 4-way and 8-way chipsets. When their internal efforts failed, they bought corrollary, and when they couldn't do it even with corrollary they had to get help from Compaq.

I guess they've decided to go to the source, since they've now bought out Compaq's high end group.

But the fact remains that Intel's high end efforts failed, and they had to get bailed out

the 450NX was not a Serverworks chipset

Which was the point of my post. Compaq and Dell had to go with Serverworks because even after buying corrollary, Intel couldn't get profusion to work until they were bailed out by Compaq.

There appears to be something about Intel's corporate culture that makes it impossible for them to develop new products, anymore. They had to get bailed out on their attempt at a server CPU design by HP, they had to get bailed out on their attempt at a server chipset design by Compaq, and their own P4 design is a real mess.

Corollary, a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel, and Compaq codeveloped the Profusion 8-way system architecture. http://www.winntmag.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=7273
