long-gone, the World is slowly heating up. Can there be any doubt about that? Even a 1° increase in average global temperature has huge consequences, and several degrees will result in flooding in Bangladesh and in bigger deserts for the US southwest. Kyoto is a modest proposal by concerned nations to head-off a longer-term disaster, in the same way that depletion of the ozone layer was avoided. Obviously the European Union is a country (yes, sorry folks, the UK, France and Germany are now provinces or states) that would like to replace the US as dominating the World, but I don't believe that is the reason why the EU is pushing Kyoto.
