hi bill,

i'll give it a crack as to why this is not bad for sunw. with open standards, theoretically, you are free to mix and match hardware and software. if star office is truly credible to ms office and can be ported to linux, then, business users are no longer tied to the ms os.

you can have solaris/star office, linux/star office and msft does not fit into this equation because everything they make is proprietary. you microphiles look at everything in monopolistic terms. the future of the internet will not be dominated by one company but by a few. ibm=linux and sunw=solaris. both platforms should be able to interoperate with one another.

the internet buildout is big enough for both companies. once the open platform concept takes hold, i am try to figure out where the devils of redmond fit in. in fact, in the business arena, they don't. if msft relys on the consumer market they are in trouble, imo.

does this help you any :).

rocky.
