the people entering the country who are NOT citizens should have an ID, imo.

I don't see how non-citizens being issued an ID card does anything to enhance our security. Would you elaborate? They could still buy fertilizer, hijack a plane, or dump something in the reservoir. What's the point of having a card in their wallet?

Meanwhile, making all foreigners who enter this country on business, say foreign employees of US multinational corporations, get a high-tech visa equivalent could put a significant damper on business.

From Congressman Paul's piece: "Moreover, private property owners certainly can take steps to protect their property from terrorists and other criminals. For example, it is perfectly legitimate for airlines to issue private ID cards to passengers and perform background checks as a condition of selling them a ticket."

Huh? The airlines, who cared so much about our safety that they gave short shrift to security all these years are going to refuse to sell a plane ticket to anyone who doesn't carry one of their ID cards? And make the potential customer wait a couple of days, weeks, or months while the background check is done? Not likely. I don't get it.
