Even this is not completely at stop-clock mode according to Note #4, which says that a 1/64 clock is still applied to the processor clock tree. amd.com "Why would they be spending all the effort going to SOI if their transistors were so superior?" Maybe AMD is not satisfied with the current processor performance parity, and want to win more market? "Likewise, why would Intel be rejecting SOI if their transistors were so badly in need of it?" You are asking a wrong guy. :-) Ask Yousef or Elmer. "Might there be something off the data sheets that you're missing?" Anything is possible. I was just going by definition: "swithching" - "stop switching", and looked into datasheets. Are you suggesting that Intel is so sloppy in the chip layout that they may have multiple shorts via, say, clamping diodes into grounded I/O pins when operating in stop-grant mode? - Ali BTW, how your TLB studies are progressing?
