Bombardier Sells Three Q300 Airliners to Australia's Qantas Airways
TORONTO, ONTARIO--NOVEMBER 19, 2001 - 15:59 EST Bombardier Aerospace today announced the sale of three 50-passenger Bombardier Q300* turboprop airliners to Australia's Qantas Airways.
The announcement includes a previously unannounced order for one Bombardier Q300 placed by Qantas in July, and a further order for two aircraft placed in November. Value of the three aircraft order is $61.4 million Cdn ($43.9 million U.S.).
"We are delighted that Qantas has demonstrated a further commitment to our products with this order for Bombardier Q300 aircraft," said Steven A. Ridolfi, president, Bombardier Regional Aircraft. "We look forward to being a part of Qantas' prosperous future."
"The addition of these Bombardier Q300 aircraft gives us improved flexibility to increase capacity within our expanding regional network," said Narendra Kumar, Qantas Executive General Manager Subsidiary Businesses. "The new Bombardier Q300 aircraft will be operated by our regional airline unit, QantasLink."
Once the new aircraft are delivered, Qantas will have 29 Bombardier turboprop aircraft, including nine new Q* Series and 20 original Dash 8(R) airliner versions.
Bombardier Q Series aircraft, introduced in 1996, are equipped with the proprietary Noise and Vibration Suppression (NVS) system that significantly reduces passenger cabin noise and vibration.
The worldwide Bombardier Q Series Dash 8 and fleet totals more than 620 delivered aircraft. That fleet has flown well in excess of 10 million hours and three billion miles while transporting more than 300 million passengers. As a measure of reliability, the economic life of a Bombardier Dash 8 is approximately 80,000 flight hours or 160,000 flight cycles - more than double the economic life of any competitive aircraft.
Today's Bombardier Q Series product line includes the 37- to 39-seat Q100* and Q200*, 50- to 56-seat Q300 and 68- to 78-passenger Q400*.
Bombardier ranks as the third largest civil aircraft manufacturer and leading regional aircraft supplier in the world. The company's combined orderbook for Bombardier Q Series Dash 8 and its pioneering CRJ* Series family of regional jets exceeds the 1,850 mark for aircraft delivered and on firm order.
