I think you might actually get more functionality out of StarOffice. I have an anecdote to relate:

My daughter recently brought home a high school assignment which required that she create a Power Point presentation. Although I might have an ancient copy of Power Point around here someplace, it isn't installed. But I do have Star Office Presentation up and running. She created her presentation using that and saved it in ppt format, and we then burned it onto a CD. It worked flawlessly on the school's computers the next day with "real" Power Point, and was a big hit. That same weekend, a friend of hers created a Power Point file at home using "real" PPT; it wouldn't work once he got it to school because he had a slightly different version of the MSFT code than was installed on the school machines. Happily, he was able to sacrifice his lunch period, go home, and bring in his raw files in time to complete the assignment, but he had a few tense moments.

True story.

Star Office: a better Power Point than Power Point.

JMHO.
