Well, today I went to Kmart to exchange a auto battery. I was at the counter and picked up an add and there was a camcorder for 210 bucks or so. I think it had 500x digital zoom. I've bought two camcorders in years past. But I'm not up on the current feature cost of camcorder equipment. I am quite certain that the 200 dollar model unit I saw at Kmart has more features than the one that just wore out and the one I bought 3 years ago for 600 bucks.

Library copy of Consumer reports tends to go over features. Also you could try a camcorder mag just to read about features.

Computing power and inexpensive software make for linear editing of videos.

But I have found that I never look at movies that I've taken. But the photos with a digital camera have interest. The question is, what is it you want to do and what cameras have the features that get you there.

But online I've used steves-digicams.com
but this may be to high end.
desktopvideo.about.com;

I'd be glad to discuss and features and pros and cons.
