re: anyone else's observations from shopping etc in their areas

Went to buy my wife a new car for Christmas. The Toyota dealer didn't have what I wanted in stock, and couldn't find it anywhere in the State. Saw a Subaru I liked on Friday, went back on Monday to talk price, it was sold. Had to order a car and wait 3 weeks.

Everyone is remodelling, adding on, Home Depot is adding a second store in town. Last summer, every other home had a backhoe in the back yard.

All the fast food places still have Help Wanted signs.

I don't see the slightest hint of belt-tightening.

I can't explain it, given that the economy here is based on oil and tourism. Maybe it's a lag effect, no one yet believes we're really in a recession.
