Charles;

Duke is right. The latest version of Powerpoint (XP) can open files from almost any previous version of the product. On the other side of the coin, since Office 97, word, excel, and powerpoint have given the user the ability to save in the format of their choice in order to ensure backwards compatibility.

That being said, the file format changes that occurred version to version in Office for quite a while are not the optimal way of doing things. After Office 97, Microsoft spent a lot of time and money to figure out a better way to address file format changes as new features were added to products. Having used Office XP for some time, I can say with certainty that these efforts have paid off.

Regards;
Jordan
