SAN Valley Systems Achieves Interoperability With McDATA Fabric Switches
- San Valley and McDATA Combined Solution Marks Advances In Fibre Channel Wan Extension -
CAMPBELL, Calif., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- SAN Valley Systems, a leading provider of wire-speed IP-SAN remote connectivity solutions, announced today that the company has completed initial connectivity and interoperability testing with McDATA Corporation (Nasdaq: MCDTA - news, MCDT - news), the worldwide leader in open storage networking solutions. The SAN Valley SL1000 IP-SAN Gateway, made generally available in September, was tested with McDATA's 3000 Series Fabric Switches, McDATA's department-level fabric switches for enterprise accounts. Interoperability between these products provides customers with around-the-clock availability to data across long distances. IT managers are now one step closer to being able to connect enterprise-class Fibre Channel (FC) Storage Area Networks (SANs) over long distances using Internet Protocol (IP)-based networks.

``As partners, McDATA and SAN Valley provide the critical link for an enterprise to connect disparate storage resources and ensure protection for mission-critical data in the event of disaster. The SAN Valley product allows McDATA to respond to end users' requirements for consolidating SAN islands over short or long distances using IP technology,'' said Richard Search, vice president of marketing for McDATA. ``McDATA's commitment is to enable our customers to simplify and optimize their storage networking resources, drive down IT costs and deliver reliable access to their stored data.''

In implementing or expanding SAN connectivity with FCIP, customers and channel partners can look to McDATA and SAN Valley to provide a reliable solution in specific customer situations. This enables IT managers to optimize storage resources in a number of ways, including:

-- Simplified disaster recovery implementations
-- Improved access to databases
-- Lower overall costs associated with backup and recovery
-- More reliable business continuance operations

``We're very pleased with the ease and success of this initial testing, particularly because of McDATA's leadership in the deployment of high-availability storage fabrics,'' said Peter Jordan, vice president of sales for SAN Valley. ``The proliferation of data in the enterprise is not new news. A server-only implementation simply doesn't scale, and moving from a server-only implementation to a storage-centric environment is a major step for companies needing to scale up. With McDATA and SAN Valley products, IT managers can take the next step -- to a connected storage-network environment that's enterprise-wide -- with the promise of reliability and continuous access.''

The two companies view this initial interoperability testing as the first step towards more sophisticated interoperability and partnership efforts, added Jordan.

McDATA's solutions enable customers to implement enterprise-class SAN infrastructure through the enterprise at all levels. As an integral segment of the McDATA full family of SAN solutions, the ES-3000 Series Fabric Switches provide department-level functionality.

SAN Valley's IP-SAN platform offers wire-speed connectivity that extends storage networks across IP MAN and WAN infrastructures. The company's SL1000 gateway product connects disparate Fibre Channel SANs across IP and optical networks, enabling customers to send secure data at wire speed over extended distances for SAN-to-SAN connectivity.

``SAN Valley's relationship with McDATA provides some assurance for channel partners,'' said Jordan. ``Their ability to provide real value to end users with cost-effective, reliable solutions rounds out the channels' product portfolios and increases their role as a leading provider of SAN solutions. An enterprise looks to the channel for the expertise needed to implement cutting-edge applications like disaster recovery, business continuance and resource consolidation. McDATA and SAN Valley interoperability takes the channel to the next level of customer solutions delivery.''
