One of the big advantages that AMD has is they use a cell based datapath methodology, which allows for much faster design turnaround times. If the "cell based" methodology is superior to Intel's custom design, why doesn't Intel implement this means?" Cell design is much faster. Full custom allows one to have exactly the right size components for the environment. It's a never ending argument as to which is "better" because better could mean either speed to market or performance. Also, cell based designs are usually a tad bigger, function for function, for a variety of reasons. Custom designs have birth pangs, but are smaller than identical logic on a cell based methodology. Generally, smaller volumes make more sense with cell based and large volumes (however that's defined) make more sense with full custom, if you can tolerate the time to get the sucker designed and into the customers hands.
