So it really is the simple question of what grounds you prefer to base your theories on -- pure science, pure religious belief, some combination of these to, or something entirely different from or in addition to these two.

I believe it is safe to say that there is never anything such as "pure science," in the past or now. Scientific belief is always constricted by what is acceptable on religious, social, or political grounds. Galileo was imprisoned for disputing that the earth was the center of the universe.

Are we more enlightened, and value-free, in our science today? I think not.
