...Like all gases, however, hydrogen can be compressed, so one proposed solution calls for cars to carry special tanks filled with pressurized hydrogen. Such tanks already exist, but more work is needed to establish safety standards for their widespread use in vehicles.

...The fuel-cell car market probably won't surpass 5% of U.S. new-vehicle sales, now about 850,000 vehicles a year, until after 2008.
