ACAM GlaxoSmithKline and Acambis touted to be recipients of lucrative smallpox
contract

Nov 20, 2001 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Rumors that GlaxoSmithKline and
Acambis, are about to win lucrative contracts from the US Government to produce
smallpox vaccines have been circulating in the British press.

Since the events of September 11 and the increased bioterrorist threat in the
US, the Federal Government has decided to stockpile vaccine against the smallpox
virus for the entire US population.

An article in the Times suggests that the smallpox contract is worth more than
$1 billion and is expected to be divided between three companies, including
GlaxoSmithKline, Acambis and possibly American Home Products.
