The last major microprocessor laid out by hand, in the sense of people cutting out plastic and taking pictures of it to make the masks, as opposed to being done on a CAD system, was, to my best knowledge, the MC68000. This was apparently not a small issue in the crummy x86 architecture getting the PC design win. My original post alluded to Intel processors being full custom, of course.

How's that t6 sighting anyway, T? The Itanic still safely tied up in port, I hope? LOL!!! But you wouldn't know anything about that, would you?
