SII, the salient feature of a national ID is that it is unique to you. If you lost it, someone else couldn't use it, unless they figure out a way to steal your fingerprints, eyeballs, or whatever the card uses to tie itself indelibly to you. You may have to undergo some hassle replacing it, but you would not suffer theft any more than with a lost credit card.

I guess you're just set against a national ID system independent of any arguments for or against it. Otherwise you wouldn't set up bogus straw men to knock down rather than debate the scenarios that some of us have put before you. You're entitled to your mind set, but please don't assert again that no one has given you an explanation of how a national ID might work. I'm exhausted. <g>
