Dan, Re: "We've seen what Intel has - Intel's new product and process pipeline is now empty, while AMD has significant new process and core improvements coming next year."

Let's consider that for a second.

Intel's pipeline for next year includes:
- Northwood with headroom up to 3GHz (if they're lucky)
- Hyperthreaded Xeons
- DDR memory support
- McKinley based Itanium
- Plumas dual DDR server chipset and i870 McKinley chipset.
- .13u and 300mm wafer fabs
- Pentium 4 for mobile
- USB 2.0

AMD's pipeline for next year includes:
- A .13u process that's already spent
- An SOI process that will add huge costs
- An 8th generation product that has already been delayed 3 times.
- Potentially, a much stronger mobile chip

Intel's 2003 pipeline includes:
- Madison based Itanium chip
- Springdale DDRII chipset
- Serial ATA, Integrated Wireless Networking
- Prescott based Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading
- 3GIO
- .09u manufacturing

AMD's 2003 pipeline includes:
- Potentially, a Hammer based server chip
- Potentially, a Hammer based mobile chip
- .09u manufacturing, only through foundry services

Hmmm... I'd say Intel's pipeline looks better than AMD's pipeline. At least it's a lot more solid. But I'm sure you have your own reasons for believing otherwise. My only point is that Intel's roadmap is probably not as bleak as you make it sound.
