O/T... on gratitude and Thanksgiving
I like this tradition of gratitude on Thanksgiving. After my 'world tour' earlier this year, I came to realize the breadth of intelligence, character and human kindness that exists in this country. I am grateful to each of you for the intelligence you have added to this thread. Many of you have helped me so much I can't begin to repay you.
But, as a feeble attempt, I leave you with a "Thanksgiving Thought" lifted from the package of some of that "Hippy-type" herb tea made by "Celestial Ceasonings" back in the '80's....
It seems that God was taking a new recruit to view heaven and hell. The man was taken into a room where there sat in a circle, tied to chairs 8 emaciated starving souls, in a circle around a kettle of the most wonderfully aromatic stew. Tied to their arms were spoons, long enough to reach the stew, but so long they could not reach there mouths. They were starving to death, but being already dead, could not die, only suffer.
"This is supper time in Hell. God said soberly".
Next, God took the man to another room. Although it had the identical setup, with the people tied to the chairs, with the spoons tied to their arms, in a circle around the stew, the men were healthy, hearty, and well fed. Laughter and good conversation filled the air.
"This is supper time in Heaven, God said..... They are feeding EACH OTHER".
This has been a favorite story of mine for over 20 years. It exemplifies what I have experienced with you guys (and Diana!) here over the last 3 years. I am grateful for you all, and wish you all fond family memories and a Happy Thanksgiving.
