Well, if in humanity alone lies true greatness, I haven't seen much evidence for yours. You may have some, but I've not seen it displayed at any time that I can remember. Perhaps you save if for "real life". I don't know anyone in "real life" who acts in the distasteful manner of many here. I assume you do not act that way in real life. If my only folly here is pride in my accomplishments, I have to say it seems a very very small folly, when compared with the very unpleasant manner some people have of attacking others. My pride in my own accomplishments is in no way an insult to you. My achievements in no way diminish you unless you unless you allow yourself to think they do. Insults, labeling, looking for "enemies" among you fellow citizens, however, these are activities that are designed to wound other people, even if they do not.
I haven't repeatedly called myself gifted. I think I did it just the once. Although I know I most certainly am, and I am not embarrassed by knowing it, or mentioning it. Perhaps you missed "know thyself" in your study of the humanities? I know that I am extremely lucky in possessing the gifts I do. I know my flaws, too. And one of them is surely pride. But at least I do not wish to wound anyone. Think on that. |
