Potential bad news for AMD: VIA apparently has a quad-data-rate chipset almost ready for P4.

The real reason why Via is so quiet about DDR 333 solutions while all the others are making an almighty PR racket is that this chipset will support a new memory technology called QBM that is capable of much higher bandwidth than the 2700 that DDR 333 can offer.

"QBM technology uses today's existing DDR SDRAM memory devices to double the memory bandwidth to the highest in the industry and provide balance with the fastest system processors," says one document.

Quad Band Memory [QBM] uses existing DDR devices (2.1 GB/sec bandwidth) or to say DDR 266 and delivers the bandwidth expected from future memory devices such as DDR2 and ADT (4.2 GB/sec bandwidth).

The chipset will be called the P4X333.

- from the inquirer at theinquirer.net

EDIT - maybe not as bad as I thought, I missed this at the end: There's a few months before the chipset samples. µ

DOUBLE EDIT - Maybe even less significant, like interleaved DDR.
