Yaacov, others bashing German manufacturing, work habits, etc.
I, for one, have had excellent working relationships and results with an alliance partner in Germany. It was not in semiconductors but in power supplies for computers. Still, the characteristics of German MFG and work ethic would apply to both. Yes, they have six or so weeks vacation per year standard, shorter work weeks in terms of hours than here, and other "worker" benefits we don't have in the USA. However, I found they back each other up well (the vacation thing), take extreme pride in their work, will work around the clock to meet deadlines and despise missing commitments..
Just one company that I happened to have luck with? I don't know. But, hey, I don't see that the German car market has exactly crumbled vs. the Japanese.
Time will tell for AMD and their success in Germany. Just had to give my 2 cents worth of experience.
As for Ireland, where Intel is expanding according to Paul, we have had smashing success with a plant there for two decades. Hand me another Guinness lad!!!
