Tell me you are kidding?
No I'm not. And they they don't have any obligation to tell us anything derived from their intelligence sources. After all, their agent's lives are at risk.
And you don't think we tell them everything (if anything), do you?
And we certainly don't have an obligation to compromise our sources and methods to them either.
I thought I was pretty clear by providing the example of Churchill and Britain's code breaking efforts during WWII(which were their most closely guarded secret until the '70s).
I'm telling you that historians have established that Churchill KNEW the Japanese were planning on launching a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, and HE SAID NOTHING to the US despite the fact that 2000 seamen lost their lives and we had most of our battleships sunk.
And given that US ships were engaged in escort duties for convoys traveling to Europe, and the fact that we gave them 50 much needed destroyers (old that they were), AND the fact that we'd essentially provided them unlimited credit through lend-lease, with which to fight the Nazis..., one would think that Churchill would have felt some obligation to tell us, even if it compromised their sources.
But Churchill had a greater goal in mind, namely to get the US involved in WWII so that both Germany and Japan could be defeated and not just contained.
And that's probably how Israel perceived it right now as well... They've been fighting on the front line of extremist Islam and they welcome any opportunity to "wake the US up" to the realization that this is a threat against the US, as much as it is against Israel.
So, like I stated, given the "realpolitik" of the issue, and were I the head of Mossad, I wouldn't tell the US either.
And btw, given that Mubarak has a tremendous intelligence network of his own, I wouldn't doubt that he had some warnings of an impending attack.
But again, he's a secular ruler and he has every interest in seeing the US take the lead against Islamic extremism.
So he wouldn't have any interest in telling us either, despite the billions we give Egypt every year.
