TSMC said to be sold out of 0.15-, 0.13-micron capacity

File this one under "my foundry is doing better than your's."

In the current IC downturn, some silicon foundries are faring better than others for sure--especially Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSMC). Hsinchu-based TSMC, the world's largest silicon foundry, is reportedly sold out of 0.18-micron capacity (see Nov. 2 story). Now, sources believe that TSMC is also sold out of its leading-edge 0.15- and 0.13-micron process technologies as well.

The foundry giant is still struggling to find customers for its older 0.25-micron and above technologies. But still, TSMC appears to be doing much better than most of its foundry rivals in today's terrible market conditions.--M.L.
