Revenue for DSL CPE, cable CPE, IADs reaches $1.3B in Q3 Worldwide revenue for DSL CPE, cable CPE and Internet access devices totaled $1.3 billion in the third quarter, and are expected to reach $6.3 billion by the end of the year, according to a new report released today by San Jose, Calif.-based market-research and consulting firm Infonetics Research. During the second quarter, this market totaled $1.52 billion in revenue.
During the quarter, 2.2 million cable modems and routers were shipped worldwide, totaling $346 million in revenue, according to Infonetics research analyst Jon Cordova.
"Despite the failure of Excite@Home, cable remains the most popular access technology for residential broadband subscribers who want basic Internet connectivity, but these subscribers will soon demand value-added voice and video services as well," Cordova said. "Most cable CPE is currently DOCSIS 1.1 compliant, but vendors will not ship CPE with voice ports until MSOs upgrade their cable plants to support voice services. On the business front, service providers are starting to offer G.SHDSL as an access technology for customers needing reliable, symmetrical services." Nov 21, 2001 |
