SUPERCOMM 2001, BOOTH 8188 Occam Networks Honored as a Hot Startup to Watch in 2001 by Telecommunications Magazine
Leadership talent, strong financial backing and innovative products position company to make strong impact in the telecom industry
ATLANTA, Ga. - June 4, 2001 - Occam Networks, a developer of cost-effective, scalable broadband access network solutions, today announced that it has been chosen by Telecommunications Magazine as a Hot Startup to Watch in 2001. The Hot Startup awards will be announced at the SUPERCOMM 2001 trade show, where Occam (booth #8188) is displaying its line of Broadband Loop Carriers.
Editors at the publication chose this year's startups based on their ability to succeed, despite some unique challenges. "Choosing our list of annual hot start-ups is always difficult, but this year we had the rocky economic outlook thrown into the mix," said Sue O'Keefe, editor in chief of Telecommunications Magazine. "The 16 companies we chose all had these characteristics in common: strong financial backing (and the wisdom to spend it wisely), proven leadership talent, marketing savvy and a product/architecture concept with the ability to make a strong impact in the telecom industry."
Since the company was founded, Occam Networks has received nearly $41 million in funding from private investors. The company has developed a new class of carrier equipment, the Broadband Loop Carrier, which solves broadband deployment issues by simplifying the edge of the local access network. "We were very impressed with the simplicity and straightforwardness of Occam's approach," said O'Keefe. "By integrating the functions of a DLC, DSLAM, voice media gateway and loop tester in one box, Occam has created an very appealing solution for service providers."
The Occam Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) cost-effectively delivers lifeline POTS and a variety of broadband services - ADSL, G.SHDSL, and Gigabit Ethernet - to residential and business customers from a single, converged voice and data access network. The BLC 1100's 24-port ADSL and POTS system upgrades existing narrowband local loops to a converged broadband access network, and is the ideal platform for carriers who want to provide ubiquitous DSL service, especially from remote terminals.
"Our investors, partners and customers have seen that we are effectively solving longstanding broadband deployment issues in a new and simple way," said Lisa Farr, CEO of Occam Networks. "We're certainly excited about being chosen as a Hot Startup by such a respected publication, and it adds to the tremendous momentum we've been gathering."
