How can you be sure of this? How can you be sure that it wasn't to spark customer demand in a market that had every indication it was falling rapidly. After all, ask yourself whether Intel has more to lose from AMD gaining market share, or a sharply lower total available market.

I already know why you can assume Intel lowered prices to compete with AMD, but your assumption doesn't necessarily coincide with reality.

This is completely wrong. In the case of an economic downturn, lower profits are expected. Ask any of the knowledgable investors here.
