I don't doubt that at all, but surely there are other reasons as well:

1) Intel's P3 CPU doesn't produce as much heat as AMD's Duron. (The THG video should erase any doubt over this.)
2) Intel's P3 CPU has a lower die size and lower cost of production than AMD's Duron.
3) Intel also offered to produce the X-Box motherboard. Did AMD?
