hi jj,
happy turkey day to you.

this story is amazing...simply amazing to me. it is a story of uncommon risk taking on a hot battlefield to save lives and accomplish the military mission.

when Rumsfeld said SF is taking no prisoners most did not envision this kind of operation. the connotation was much grimmer. i am certain that SF is attacking pure military targets with incredible ferocity. killing is easy when the battle is going your way.

yet the kind of battlefield gentleness towards civilians depicted in this story has been the SF way for the 40 years i have been around them. it would have been much easier, less time-consuming, and much less risky to kill the drivers quietly and quickly. or even easier...to quietly and unseen just stand back, lase the target and let the birds attack with no warning and no regard to who was around the target area.

the real payoffs from operating the way they did here come later.
