HKL, from what I know of Islam, I really don't see it as inapplicable today... the lending of money and paying or collecting of interest issue in doing business may have an answer based on need. For example, if the only way a merchant can do business is by credit, then may be that is a legitimate excuse... I am not saying that it is since I really don't know...

Qur'an makes reference to what is prohibited to eat for example, but then adds a provision that it is ok to eat what is otherwise prohibited to eat based on need and not transgression... meaning, if that was all that can be found to eat.

we have to look into the religion and see if there are things that no longer apply... and see if they were meant for that time period or not before saying that this religion is 1500 years old, or 2000 years old and no longer applies to today's life...

regards, and pbwy too
