If Chomsky were really "more anti-Saddam than anyone", that would mean that he considered him a serious threat, which in turn might mean that he favored actions that contained that threat and helped at least some of Saddam's victims, even if he did not approve of the reasoning or the preceding policies.
But since that approach would force him to actually approve of at least one or two of the US' policies in the Gulf War and since, we never hear a word of it. Nor does Chomsky waste any time on Saddam's many victims, some of whom, such as the Kurds of Northern Iraq, we have actually helped. To show sympathy for Saddam's victims would also imply that the US is not the cause of ALL the crimes on the globe, so Chomsky doesn't waste his time.
Though I did notice, in digging up some of Chomsky's writings from 1991, that they sound considerably more nuanced and rational than his recent writings. Then, I considered him merely unbalanced; now, I think he's completely psychotic in his hatred for the country he lives in. |
