You're quite right, that's an excellent passage as well.

The priest and the Levite would have been very knowledgeable about what was Correct Belief, and certainly were among the religious insiders of their society. That sort didn't seem to be among Christ's favorites, as I read the gospels. I get the impression that the spiritually haughty come in for a lot heavy criticism, so those who take pride in their own position may want to reconsider that idea. Gratitude for our own salvation might be a wiser course, for those who share the faith.

Samaritans were sort of outcast cousins to the Judeans in Christ's time. The average Judean wouldn't have associated with them, and certainly the priests and Levites wouldn't have. Samaritans were like Untouchables. There's a message in the parable, and I don't think it's that we should crow about our own special status with the Almighty versus the spiritual darkness of our heathen pals.
