Some have made the "command" argument against cowardice by equating bin Laden as a general of his "army". Noting the general does not go into the battle since his value is greater for "troops" alive.

Most legitimate generals achieved their position by rising from the ranks through meritorious service . Even if you make the generalship argument with bin Laden, I think it is a fair point to note that he is a self appointed general, a status made possible by his wealth. He has always held a "special" exemption by virtue of his ability to buy protection.
