NEW topic for discussion: Trading against the market. Well, as we all know, it's easiest when the market is trending "your way". An easy example was the current rally in the market, and going long was easy. The tough question, is if the market is downtrending, how to find stocks to go long "against the market trend"? Many traders go into "scalping mode", but I'm looking using TA to look for bigger trend moves against the market. (on daily scale rather than 5 min) --------------------------------------- 1) In stockcharts.com, there is a RELATIVE PERFORMANCE INDICATOR W/ A MOVING AVERAGE. This is plotted to compare the stock performance v. the INDEX performance. Thus, if ABC is outperforming the SPX (for example), then the indicator would have a bullish crossover. this example shows that PG outperformed the spx500 during jul 2001 to sep 2001. stockcharts.com[h,a]daclyymy[p][vc60][iLj[$spx]] I acutally have a scan that looks for these "divergences" in metastock. ------------------------------------------- 2) 2nd way is just to apply traditional TA and look for price divergence. Chris at the "Charting & Technical Analysis for Stock Indexes" thread suggest price overlays to look for divergences. Even though he uses them for scalping trades, I would presume daily/weekly timeframes would work also. stocktrendwizard.com -------------------- Anyway, I was wondering if other people have other ideas?
