Constantine, Yes indeed, there is fear at Intel over their uncertain future and doubt for their continued existence. You said it well. Bill
Hey... I don't know about you, but I'm-a- "quake'n in my boots".
Intel is most likely now ramping it's new 0.13u facility in Az, and that along with the Oregon, and Ca facilities will most likely flood the market with cheap Northwood P4's in Q1/02.
By the time intel gets it's Hudson Mass Fab up on 0.13u, the other facilities should be well on their way.... if not way past.... their introductions of "Prestonia" (0.13u Xeon), and McKinley/Madison (0.13u IA-64).
By the time intel FINALLY brings on line the Irish, and/or Israeli Fabs on 0.13u, The Western 0.13u Fabs should be on their 2nd, or 3rd steppings of Northwoood.... or it's successors. Can you say 3GHZ+.......
In The Meantime.....
There seems to be some evidence... circumstantial to be sure, that there MIGHT be some sort of Driver Update compatability issues, in some circumstances, with AMD XP and Windows XP. We'll see...
AMD XP is gasping for air on 0.18u, and 0.13u is nowhere in site. Will it get here on time.... ummmm revised on time, or will it be late again.... we'll see....
AMD's "Extended 64" seems like a good plan..... On Paper. Sometimes things turn out a bit differently In Reality. Will AMD be able to hit another "Athlon Style" home run? We'll see........
That's the thing..... When I look at intel going forward, I see strong plans. When I look at AMD, it's..... We'll see.
:-)
