I don't think the bombing would have been affected by public sentiment. 90% indicated that they believed the President was doing OK. The problem with the we need gratification now media coverage was that it lowered the morale of many for no reason and pessimism is a negative on the economy and that impacts many very directly. The only question was how long it would take to get the northern alliance/rabble moving in a more or less unified direction. All the gloom and doom was doing was making a big adversary of a paper tiger.
